Design Reference Year
Assessing risks in insulation retrofits using hygrothermal software tools, Heat and moisture transport in internally insulated stone walls, by Joseph Little, Calina Ferraro and Beñat Arregi, published by Historic Environment Scotland in 2015, defines the Design Reference Year as: ‘Climatic data for a whole year, assembled from data recorded during a number of years, to be used for design purposes. A Design Reference Year tends to represent extreme conditions to allow for risk, whereas a Test Reference Year represents averaged conditions.’
